Sometimes in your long festival-goer life, you’ll wonder about what else is going on in the world. You may know all of your country’s festivals, or maybe you scrolled down the country list in FestivAll and this particular festival caught your eye. Whether you want to try a new festival in a new country or you’ve found that incredible lineup a plane ticket away, here is all you need to know about making that happen.
Transportation
Check where the festival is located. Is it right in the middle of a city center, with plenty of transportation available? Or is it in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but trees for miles and miles? Transport may not only include just flying to that country, but also figuring out how to get to the festival entrance. Some festivals include shuttles and special transportation to get you there, but you may have to dig around their festival to find out.
Once you’ve found a way of transport you’re happy with, book it! Use searching tools to find the cheapest flights available, and check if the train or bus companies have any special deals for advanced bookings.
Make sure you can get home once the festival is over. Check the times for public transportation, or take hold of a taxi company for the city as not every place has uber-like services.
A bed to sleep in
Festivals are a lot of fun, but they’re also tiring, so it’s best if you find the right place to sleep in. If the festival has a camping zone, you might not want to forget some earplugs and an eye mask. Invest in a good, comfortable mattress that will guarantee you’ll sleep the night even on top of rocks.
If the festival happens in an urban environment, you’re probably need a place to stay. You might want to call that friend of a friend who lives there, but it would be less of a hassle to do your bookings through a specialized service. They will find the best package and prepare a ticket + lodging combo that will save you the trouble to do it all yourself.
Visiting the town
Any lineup will have some free time for you to enjoy and discover this new town. Take advantage of that! Balancing tiredness with the willingness to walk around and discovering new places is a task that no one will say it’s easy, but can be done. Study the lineup to see what’s unmissable and to determine at what time you want to get to the festival. Then, add all the monuments, museums, beaches, or shops you want to visit. Be realistic about what you want to visit, it might be hard to see a whole town in 3 half-days!
Does the weather call for umbrellas or sunglasses?
Take a look at the foreign city’s weather beforehand. Make sure you bring the appropriate clothes and shoes. If it’s in a mountain and it’s going to rain, common sense dictates to take your wellies. If it’s by the beach and there are no clouds in the horizon, don’t forget your sunscreen! You might also want to take into consideration how cold it gets at night or if it’s really windy.
