Governors Ball

2-4 June, Randall's Island Park, New York City

The Governors Ball Music Festival, as well as the next two festivals we’ll mention, ended last night. However, it’s still worth taking a few notes on what’s going on in this New York giant: Chance The Rapper, Childish Gambino and city legends Wu-Tang Clan already gave us quality performances, while Wiz Khalifa and Logic turned it up yesterday. Also last night, Tool made an overly awaited comeback to the big shows, as well as Franz Ferdinand (new line up and record incoming!) and Air. But no comeback should be as remarkable as the one on Friday, as Charles Bradley returned onstage from a stomach cancer recovery!

This is quite the trends’ festival, and we could continue mentioning the remaining artists that shape this unique line-up (Mark Ronson & Kevin Parker of Tame Impala playing their songs from Uptown Special? Lorde and Tove Lo’s millennial electronic music?). Instead, we’ll keep it short and praise Governors Ball as the best festival in the city of New York, and if this isn’t enough for you to perceive its magnitude, then probably the best way possible to do so is to set presence next year!

Rock am Ring/Rock im Park

2-4 June, Nürburgring, Nürburg/Zeppelinfeld, Nuremberg, Germany

Fortunately, by now, we’re aware last Friday’s terrorist scare didn’t materialize in anything and Rock am Ring did return to its scheduled concerts the next day. With that in mind, let’s make justice to both festivals and talk about the usual.

Rock am Ring is one the oldest and biggest rock festival in the world. Even its counterpart Rock im Park, who shares its line-up and it’s located not very far from its brother (about 400 km) dates back from 1993. This year’s am Ring set to return to its original site, the Nürburgring motorsports complex, while im Park cemented its roots in Zeppenlinfeld for its 13th year now, and the line-up once again made rockers around the globe drool: System of a Down, Prophets of Rage, Liam Gallagher and Germaine dinosaurs Rammstein represent this year’s big names. Speaking about Rammstein, who didn’t have a chance to perform Friday, they made it up last night at Rock im Park, as well as the remaining performances who did or didn’t play at am Ring. Long live Rock n’Roll!

Pinkpop

3-5 June, Landgraaf, Netherlands

Now here’s a strange choice of dates, huh? Starting on Saturday and ending on a Monday. Not really, since the Netherlands, as well as many other European countries, celebrate the Pentecost holiday the first Monday of June (Germany as well, probably why Rock am Ring pushes the last day to a Sunday). But enough of this trivia talk, since Pinkpop Festival holds the record for the oldest music festival in the world running yearly since 1970. In this year’s 48 th edition(!), you may count on names such as Sean Paul, Justin Bieber, Green Day, Martin Garrix, Imagine Dragons and Kings of Leon. Now here's an impressive line up that can convince even the pickiest of your friends.

Bonnaroo Music + Arts Festival

8-11 June, Great Stage Park, Manchester, Tennessee

Just as complicated to write as the State, Bonnaroo has already somewhat of a big status in the American festival route. Again you may find some of the names who rocked in the previous weekend on Governors Ball – Chance The Rapper, Lorde, Flume – adding to some artists needing no introduction: U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Weeknd. Music related it is done.

What about the other component of the festival, “Arts”? As many other festivals also keep on providing more and better activities to complement the whole experience, Bonnaroo seems at least to have been one of the pioneers of this trend. You may find a poster exhibit, jam sessions (which is a trait of origin from Bonnaroo, many jam bands have played there), yoga classes, environment and sustainability-oriented activities, all which integrated into an excellent camping experience provided with awesome facilities and billboards. That’s how you make a “more than music” festival! Congrats, Bonnaroo.

NOS Primavera Sound

8-10 June, Porto, Portugal

We’re very sorry, but we will hold on this one. Reason? Upcoming individual preview and presence on the festival! Take notice.
